13 years ago, I created a Facebook Page called the Bipolar Bloke in an effort to raise awareness within the community. At the time, I was the General Manager of a Flagship Hotel and my goal was to "Break the Stigma" surrounding Mental Health and demonstrate that as a highly functional person with Bipolar Disorder, I could successfully manage a multi-million-pound business in the bustling city of London, England.
During my time there, I received numerous accolades both professionally and personally. I was honoured with the title of "Hotel Manager of the Year" for our company, and the business itself won several national awards in various categories under my leadership. Additionally, I had the opportunity to meet Dana White and attempt to join the UFC, although I was unsuccessful. However, I did have the privilege of training and sparring with the Heavyweight Champion of the world, David Haye, who held the WBC belt. After spending nearly 12 years in the United Kingdom, I was presented with the chance to join an old school friend in Bali and utilise my hospitality skills in his Villa Management business.
So here I am in Bali, eight years later, with many more experiences related to Bipolar Disorder. I have come to realise that there is still a significant need for information and education regarding Mental Health, especially Bipolar Disorder. This is why I have created this website, to share with the world the first-hand "Patient experience and education" that I have gained over more than a decade of dealing with this relentless illness. It is a truthful, raw, and unfiltered account of what it means to suffer or thrive in the face of this diabolical condition. If this website can help just one person, then the time spent creating it will have been worthwhile. It is meant to serve as a resource for caregivers, partners, spouses, and family members who have loved ones with Bipolar Disorder. It represents one man's perspective on the condition.
Bipolar Disorder remains widely misunderstood, even by myself. Therefore, this website serves as my attempt to shed light on its hidden secrets and openly discuss the topics that are often whispered about. It is available to anyone interested in Mental Health.
On a positive note, I want to emphasise that I have survived. I am currently 51 years old, enjoying a fantastic life in Bali, Indonesia as part of a prosperous business. I am in good health and physical shape, and I experience reasonably long periods of stability. My happiness is my own, and I am fortunate to have a strong support network of people who care about me. To quote a stranger I met while surfing at Padma beach before work the other day, "mate, you're living the dream." And indeed I am. And so can you. Bipolar Disorder will not prevent you from achieving your goals or living your best life. With knowledge and experience, you too can thrive. I am offering my assistance as a healthcare consultant to those in need, specialising in Bipolar Disorder and teaching and sharing my new perspective - “Bipolar Aware”
